NOW AVAILABLE: Comprehensive
Dementia Training Catalog (Posted
10-6-09)
Dear VA Clinicians and Educators:
An electronic, indexed DEMENTIA TRAINING MATERIALS CATALOG
is now available at http://vaww.va.gov/geriatricsshg
(Intranet only).
This electronic catalog is indexed to a range of topics, from
early diagnosis to behaviors of advanced dementia.
Save the catalog in your Favorites tab for easy reference
when looking for information and/or preparing educational
activities.
The VA Geriatric Research, Education and Clinical Center (GRECC)
Dementia Education Workgroup created this electronic, indexed
catalog. It is based on a list of materials previously developed
by the VHA Dementia Training Materials Review Workgroup, which
conducted an extensive review of educational materials dealing
with the diagnosis and treatment of dementia and developed
a compendium of those materials judged by expert consensus
to be of the highest quality and utility. (The VHA Dementia
Training Materials Review Workgroup’s full Report is
available at http://vaww.va.gov/geriatricsshg/docs/FINALREPORTDementiaTrainingMaterialsReviewWorkGroup8-31-07.doc).
It is our hope that the ready availability of these materials
will facilitate your care of Veterans with dementia or other
cognitive impairment. Please take a few minutes to review
the materials in the catalog to appreciate the wide variety
of information now available at your fingertips.
We welcome any comments or suggestions about the catalog,
and we will be seeking formal feedback from you at a later
date.
Sincerely,
Dementia Education Workgroup

Medical Detox (Posted
8-1-07)
The Art of Medical Detox is explained in detail in a new
book by one of our prominent PA authors, Mr. Bruce Miller.
Mr. Miller has been involved with this area of medicine
for many years in his VA position in Mental Health. He is
now willing to share this in his latest work "The Art
of Medical Detox". Please respect his wishes that this
should only be distributed to PAs in the VA system. Thank
you. Click here
to download your copy. (Permission of the author was
obtained to make this available to you through this site.
Please respect his copyright.) |

Code of Federal Regulations
You can find the specific regulations at the DEA website:
http://www.deadiversion.usdoj.gov/
Also please check these specific pages; http://www.deadiversion.usdoj.gov/drugreg/index.html
It is so unique for VHA not to be requesting an exemption
for registration. See 1301.23. There are no PAs in the DOD,
Military or PHS required to have DEA registration (or state
license) to prescribe scheduled medications.
