AAPA House of Delegates Reports

2004 VAPAA Chief Delegate: Patty Lyman

2004 VAPAA Second Delegate: Tom Zampieri

Hi Folks,

This is something new for the web page as of 2004, a house of delegates report for the members to see what your delegates did at the AAPA HOD meetings. We thought it might interest people in knowing about what we did in the AAPA house, so we wrote up a summary of the major issues we debated. We also attached the Policy Paper on Foreign Trained PAs. We were not sure how to put them together so they are in two different documents. This was a really big topic; with five other countries training PAs now, some day we may have to confront one of those PAs as she or he comes knocking at the door of the United States seeking employment.

Since England and Canada both have PA programs like our American programs, it would be difficult to slam the door shut on them, while American PAs have worked in many countries for years. Anyway, we just thought it would be interesting for people to see what we are doing on their behalf.

Thanks to our Alternate Delegates, Skip Pendas, PA-C and John Fields, PA-C, without whom we wouldn't have had the ability to side-conference with other delegates and make significant advances with 'buttonholing' of key members in the HOD! Thanks to both of you.

-Patty and Tom
